FAQ

Questions and answers

Straight answers about households, medications, sitter links, your data and pricing — including what MoonCats does not do yet.

Getting started

Do I need a separate account for each of my cats?
No. You create one household and add each pet to it. A household with three cats and two caretakers is still one account.
How do I get the rest of my household onto MoonCats?
One person creates the household and invites everyone else by email. Each person signs in with their own account, so every entry shows who actually made it. Owners and admins send the invitations.
Does MoonCats work for dogs, or only cats?
Both. MoonCats is built cat-first, but dogs are a fully supported species — the same medications, journal, weights, vet records and reminders.
What do I need to start?
A web browser, or the Android app. Everything is free while MoonCats is in early access, so there is nothing to buy in order to try it.

Medications and safety

Does MoonCats prevent double-dosing?
Not in the general sense, and we will not claim it does. What it does is stop the same scheduled dose from being logged twice: once someone marks the morning dose as given, that dose is closed for everyone, enforced at the database level so it holds even if two people tap at the same moment. It does not evaluate whether two different doses — a morning one and an evening one — are safely spaced. That judgment stays with you and your vet.
What happens if two of us tap the same dose at once?
Only the first tap logs it. The second person sees that it is already done, along with who logged it and at what time.
Can I fix something I logged by mistake?
Yes. You can undo your own entry within a day of making it, and an owner or admin can correct any entry at any time. An undone entry stays visible as undone rather than disappearing, so the history stays intact.
I forgot to log a dose yesterday. Can I still record it?
Yes. You can record a missed dose against the day it actually happened, going back up to 90 days.
What medication schedules can MoonCats handle?
Fixed schedules of once or twice a day, and as-needed medications with a minimum gap between doses. Three-times-daily schedules are not supported yet.
Does MoonCats support insulin or other injectable medications?
No. Today it covers oral and topical medications only. Injectables, insulin dosing and blood-glucose tracking are not built.
Will it tell me before a medication runs out?
Yes, if you record how much you have. MoonCats projects your days of supply and sends a low-stock reminder ahead of time, rather than waiting until the bottle is empty.
Is MoonCats giving me medical advice?
No. MoonCats records and coordinates what your vet has already told your household to do. It does not diagnose, dose, recommend treatment, or decide whether anything is safe.

Sharing and sitters

Can I give a pet sitter access without creating an account for them?
Yes. An owner or admin generates a link, chooses how long it lasts — anywhere from one day to ninety — and sends it. The sitter needs no login and nothing installed.
What does the sitter actually see?
Today's medications and care tasks, feeding notes, allergies and known adverse reactions, and an emergency vet contact. As-needed medications are marked as such, so a rescue dose is not mistaken for a routine one.
Can a sitter log a dose or change anything through that link?
No. The link is read-only by design and tested to stay that way. Nothing on it can be logged, ticked off or edited.
Can a sitter see our spending or our history?
No. The link shows the current care sheet and nothing else — no dose history, no journal, no expenses, no other household records.
Can a sitter see an upcoming vet appointment?
Yes. The link includes a calendar feed they can subscribe to in their own calendar app, which stays current if the appointment moves.
What if I want to cut off access early?
Revoke the link and it stops working immediately. Revoked and expired links stay listed in your household, so you keep a record of who could see what, and when.

Your data

Can I export everything, and does it cost anything?
Yes, and no. From the web app you can download a JSON file with every record your household has logged — pets, medications, dose history, care tasks, journal, weights, vet notes, appointments and expenses. It is free, with no plan attached.
Does the export include my photos?
Not the image files. The export lists each photo and where it is stored, but the pictures themselves are not bundled into the download yet.
Can I export from my phone?
Not yet. The export runs in the web app; you can open it in a phone browser, but it is not in the Android app.
Does MoonCats track me or show me ads?
No. There is no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking cookie anywhere in MoonCats. The only cookie it sets keeps you signed in.
What happens to my entries if I leave the household or delete my account?
They stay, attributed to your name as it was when you logged them. A dose you gave is part of the household's medical record, so it does not vanish with your account — but it is no longer linked to it.
How do I delete my account?
From your account settings, in the app. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. If you are the only owner of a household that has other members, you have to transfer ownership first; if you are its only member, the household and everything in it is deleted with you. The details are on the account deletion page.

Pricing and platforms

Is there any cost right now?
No. Every household has the whole product for free, including the JSON export and the vet report. There is no billing system in MoonCats at all.
Will it always be free?
Single-cat households will stay free. We expect to introduce a paid plan for households with two or more cats, priced per household rather than per pet or per caretaker. No price and no date exist yet, and both will be published on the pricing page before anything changes.
Is MoonCats on iPhone?
No. Today MoonCats is a web app that works in any browser, plus an Android app. There is no iOS app.
Does the Android app work without a connection?
Partly. It shows the last list it loaded, marked as offline, so you can see what is due. You need a connection to log anything.
